TRIBUTE TO PROFESSOR ANNA REYNOLDS BARNES BY VOLTA HALL

Silently the shades of evening
Gather round my lowly door;
Silently they bring before me
Faces I shall see no more.
- Christopher Christian Cox

The year 2020… Oh, what a year it’s been! Many gallant soldiers of our Alma Mater – the University of Ghana – have been called home these past months. It is the way of all mankind, we’re often told; but nothing prepared us for the news of your sudden demise, our dear Auntie Anna.

You were assigned as Fellow of Volta Hall on your appointment as Lecturer in 1972. Through diligent discharge of your duties - in the roles of Tutor, Member of Hall Council and Deputy Warden – you contributed in no small way to building the culture of excellence that remains the hallmark of our noble Hall.

We are even more proud of your achievements as one of the country’s pioneers in the area of Meat Science and Pig Production. Epitomizing the mother hen that stops at nothing till her chicks are fed, you conducted purposeful research aimed at improving the nation’s nutritional health. You truly were, and will always be remembered, as a Lady with Vision and Style!

The younger generation of ladies you inspired along the way, together with your peers and the entire Volta Hall Family, salute you and say:
Adieu! Obaatanpa
Rest peacefully with the Lord, till we meet again.
